Travel Dreams are Great for You

There’s something about the grey days of mid-winter that causes us to dream of far-off places, warm beaches, and all kinds of new adventures.

With the warm cozy glow of Solstice, Christmas, New Year’s, and myriad other December holidays gone and no longer able to stave off the grey cold world, we dream. Even in those muted days, we’re somehow full of hope at the beginning of each new year, anxiously anticipating what it will hold and hoping for better, especially the last few years.

It turns out that dreaming is good for us. When we let go of the grind of our to-do lists for a few minutes and allow ourselves to dream, we activate the brain’s default mode network. This neural network helps you to be more creative by allowing your brain to make connections between things you might not have otherwise. This is a phenomenon many of us know well. The “good ideas come to you in the shower” phenomenon. Let your mind wander a bit and see what happens.

As if a creativity boost isn’t enough, dreaming about traveling is a wonderful way to increase your happiness in the moment. You can extend that by planning an actual trip, even if you won’t take it for a while or at all. In exploring the possibilities of what you COULD do, you get to tap into the joy of the trip right now.

Dreaming allows you to consider possibilities you didn’t even know were an option. You can consider “what would it look like it if I could…?”  These are a great counterpoint to the traditional “what ifs” that rattle around in our heads which tend to be projected fears of what could go wrong rather than projected hopes of how wonderful something could be.

I’ve enjoyed several episodes of the There She Goes podcast recently and wanted to pass this gem on to you. Give it a listen to fuel your travel dreams or simply spark your creativity. Let your mind wander!

What are you dreaming of these days? Send me an email and let me know. I’d love to hear from you!

As for me, I’m dreaming of helping you dream. I have a new class starting soon and it’s better than ever. I can’t wait to share it with you.
